SCAD – Bergen Hall

The Savannah College of Art and Design’s iconic Bergen Hall, located in the heart of Savannah’s Historic District, recently underwent a significant modernization aimed at elevating both performance and sustainability. HG delivered full MEP and fire protection engineering services, partnering closely with the architectural team and SCAD leadership to craft environmentally responsible solutions that support the university’s long‑term sustainability goals.  A major component of the renovation included the deployment of high‑efficiency VRF HVAC systems, designed to reduce energy consumption, improve occupant comfort, and provide precise zone control throughout the building. These systems were paired with upgraded building controls logic, enabling smarter operation, reduced waste, and improved lifecycle performance.  Our engineering team also worked to optimize indoor air quality and system reliability while minimizing the building’s carbon footprint—an especially important challenge.
